In the early 1900s, Miranda attended a girls’ school in Australia. One Valentine’s Day, usually a strict school principal (Rachel Roberts), processes girls on a picnic trip to an unusual but picturesque volcanic formation called hanging rocks. Despite the rules before, Miranda and several other girls leave. Only the end of the day, the faculty realizes that girls and one of the teachers (Vivean Gray) have mysteriously disappeared.
